Chapter 7
Birthdays
Marlene would often speak about how certain birthdays were good while others not so much. She meant it in terms of whether it bothered her or not. She would say that when I turned 30 or 40 it bothered me but 50 or 60 were just fine.
I’ve tried to include a few pictures and share her celebrating at various times. One tradition I tried to follow every year was to take a week’s vacation so that I would always be home, and we could travel if we wanted to. She of course expected calls from family which she so much appreciated.
With so many Facebook friends, it would take her a while to respond to them all.
We would quite often get in the car and drive to Alma to have lunch or dinner where it’s always a bit cooler on any July 12th.
Along with my own birthday card, there would be one from the fur babies as well. I would imprint their paw prints inside the card for that personalized touch.
Marlene however wishing to extend the day as long as possible delayed opening of gifts till much later in the day and well into the evening sometimes. It would drive me nuts The bests of days were those July 12th each year.
