The GA Years

Perhaps the greatest influence on Marlene’s life was her involvement with Gamblers Anonymous or simply GA as it’s known.

Created and based on the previously created Alcoholics Anonymous AA, its program is very similar.  

A 12-step program that delves into the need for belief in a higher power, the requirement to make restitution and the sharing during meetings to drive home that you are not alone in the struggle and to simply take it one day at a time.

This little prayer is familiar to all, but I show it just below and imagine reading it with her voice reciting it.

• "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference"

Whenever I would attend a meeting with her during a celebration, we all held hands at the end to recite this prayer.
