Chapter 12
Christmas
The Holiday she came to love. She would tell me this in later years which surprised me but also took as a compliment I suppose. Truth be told there was no doubt I felt the same.
Including a few Christmases related photos but there are literally hundreds on file.
In what was to become our second to last trip to Ontario we decided to stop halfway in Drummondville and the hour prior to arriving while driving between Quebec City and Montreal we listened to the Carpenters Christmas album and the sense of peace that overcame both of us was magical.
At the risk of repeating myself, I told Marlene a few years back that the reason I enjoyed these occasional long drives was that I got to have her to myself for hours upon hours. We would talk about anything and with an honesty that the long road seemed to bring out in us. Travelling at Christmas or any other time will never be the same.
The loneliness felt this last Christmas I cannot describe.
However, Thank you sweetie for giving me 23 great ones.
